Mason

Mason was an innovative startup founded in 2021, driven by a team with engineering, design, and product management expertise. We identified major gaps in existing data analytics tools, such as discarded reports and poor collaboration capabilities, which led us to develop Mason. Our mission was to make data analytics both simple and flexible by enhancing speed and collaborative SQL query handling. Over two years, Mason built a collaborative SQL editor, shared query library, and real-time dashboards, which earned us a waitlist of 1,500 organizations. However, despite achieving several milestones, Mason struggled to gain sufficient market traction and resonate with both small and large organizations. The rapid progress of AI technology also limited the effectiveness of our AI-powered SQL editor. Despite the team's relentless effort and several learning experiences, we decided to shut down Mason due to an inability to deliver compelling value against established tools.
