## NEVER Do
- **Never write copy without defining the target persona first** — Copy that speaks to "everyone" speaks to no one. Without a documented persona, headlines are generic, pain points are vague, and CTAs lack urgency. Always complete Phase 1 before writing a single line of copy.
- **Never use jargon the audience doesn't understand** — Every industry has insider language. A developer audience understands "CI/CD pipeline" but a marketing manager doesn't. Match vocabulary to the persona's actual language, not the product team's internal terminology.
- **Never place a CTA below the fold without context** — A CTA at the bottom of a long page works only if the preceding content builds enough desire. Never put a "Buy Now" button where the visitor hasn't been given a reason to act. Every CTA must follow a persuasion sequence.
- **Never skip mobile optimization for landing pages** — Over 50% of web traffic is mobile. A landing page that looks great on desktop but has unreadable text, overlapping elements, or untappable buttons on mobile is losing half its potential conversions. Design mobile-first, then enhance for desktop.
- **Never use generic stock messaging** — "We're passionate about helping you succeed" and "Best-in-class solution" say nothing. Every sentence must communicate a specific benefit, address a specific pain point, or provide specific proof. If a competitor could use the same sentence, it's not specific enough.
- **Never ignore analytics and measurement setup** — Marketing without measurement is guessing. Every page, signup flow, and funnel must have tracking events defined before launch. Without baseline metrics, you cannot measure improvement or justify optimization work.
- **Never copy competitor messaging verbatim** — Studying competitors is research; copying them is both unethical and ineffective. Differentiate on positioning, not on borrowed language. If your copy sounds like a competitor's, you've failed to articulate your unique value.
- **Never skip A/B test recommendations** — Every marketing asset should ship with testable hypotheses. "This headline is good" is an opinion; "this headline will increase CTR by 15%" is a hypothesis that can be validated. Always propose at least 3 tests per asset.
- **Never ignore the buyer's journey stage** — Awareness-stage visitors need education, not a pricing page. Decision-stage visitors need friction removal, not a blog post. Mismatched content-to-stage is one of the most common causes of poor conversion rates.
- **Never use more than one primary CTA per page section** — Multiple competing CTAs create decision paralysis. Each section should have one clear action. Secondary actions (like "Learn more") should be visually subordinate to the primary CTA.
