About Brave Leo

Brave Leo is a browser-native AI assistant built directly into the Brave browser, designed to enhance browsing with interactive, privacy-first AI capabilities. Hosted by Brave without reliance on third-party AI services, Leo uses Meta’s Llama 2 model to process user queries anonymously. Users can interact with web pages they’re visiting—asking for video transcripts, article summaries, reading comprehension help, or follow-up questions—all without leaving the page. No user login or account is required, and chat history is never stored on Brave’s servers; conversations are discarded immediately after replies are generated. Currently available for testing on the Brave Nightly desktop channel, Leo represents a novel approach to integrating AI into browsing while maintaining strict privacy safeguards. Future releases plan to incorporate live information via Brave Search and expand availability to all Brave users.
