FAQ

How does DB Pilot AI help me?
DB Pilot AI can help you write SQL queries by giving instructions in English. It can also explain queries, debug errors with 'Fix with AI', and convert between code and SQL. Inline AI and @-mentions allow help without leaving your workflow.
Can I try the AI assistant before I buy?
Yes, you can try the AI assistant for 20 messages before buying. You need to provide your own API keys for AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI, etc.). See documentation for details.
Which operating systems are supported?
DB Pilot can be used on Mac (both M chip and Intel) currently. Support for Linux and Windows is coming soon.
Which databases are supported?
You can connect PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, MySQL, SQLite, chDB (local ClickHouse), and DuckDB databases. Support for more databases is being continuously added.
How is my data used and stored?
All app data is stored locally on your computer. Connection credentials are stored locally with passwords and sensitive info in your device's keychain. Database connectivity happens directly between your computer and the database server. DB Pilot does not store any of your database data on its servers.
Can the AI assistant read my data?
No, the AI assistant cannot read your data. It knows which tables and columns exist in your database to assist better, but it does not have access to any actual data stored in your database.
What are notebooks and how do they help?
Notebooks allow you to mix and match SQL, Python, text, and interactive tables/charts to explore data and build dashboards. They are perfect for iterative data exploration, combining data from multiple sources, and creating reproducible analyses.
What's the difference between free and one-time purchase?
The free plan lets you get started with DB Pilot and try AI features with your own API keys (limited messages). The one-time purchase ($79) gives access to all premium features in app versions released within 1 year of purchase. To use AI features with the one-time purchase, you need to provide your own API key for AI providers.
