Texts is a privacy-focused messaging client that aggregates multiple major messaging platforms into a single, unified interface for desktop and mobile. Originally developed as Texts.com, it was acquired by Automattic and later merged with Beeper in 2024, combining the best features and technologies of both applications. The new Beeper app maintains the core commitment to privacy and security by supporting on-device connections, ensuring that messages never touch the company's servers — they are encrypted and sent directly to the original messaging platforms. The app supports a wide range of platforms including iMessage, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Messenger, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, and more. Texts/Beeper operates on a subscription model and does not monetize user data, and existing Texts subscribers automatically receive Beeper Plus features.
The platform integrates several AI-powered productivity enhancements. Users can quickly catch up on conversations with automated chat summaries, draft responses using ChatGPT integration directly within the app, and compose replies in their native language with automatic AI translation. Beyond AI features, the messenger includes robust inbox management tools: powerful search across all messages (including links, documents, pictures, and videos), archive functionality, the ability to mark conversations as unread, stealth mode to read messages without triggering read receipts, message scheduling, snoozing of people or conversations, extensive keyboard shortcuts, and customizable interface themes (dark/light modes and custom CSS). The app also offers cross-platform support with consistent features across iOS, Android, and desktop environments.
While the merger has brought faster updates and a redesigned interface, some original Texts features are noted as missing in Beeper and are being gradually reintroduced.
