Android XR
PaidAndroid XR is Google's new OS for XR devices, integrating Gemini AI for immersive AR/VR experiences across headsets and smart glasses.
About Android XR
Android XR is a new operating system developed by Google, in collaboration with Samsung and Qualcomm, designed specifically for extended reality (XR) devices such as headsets and smart glasses. It integrates Google's Gemini AI to enable more natural and conversational interactions, allowing the platform to understand user intent and the surrounding environment. The OS aims to provide immersive experiences that blend augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), supporting a wide range of applications from entertainment and work to exploration and social connection. Announced in December 2024 as a developer preview, Android XR builds on the foundation of the Android ecosystem and leverages existing developer tools like ARCore, Android Studio, Jetpack Compose, Unity, and OpenXR to facilitate app and game development. The first consumer device running Android XR, code-named Project Moohan and built by Samsung, is expected to launch in the following year, with further support from partners including Lynx, Sony, XREAL, and Magic Leap.
