Anthropic in Talks for $950 Billion Valuation Raise
Anthropic, a prominent artificial intelligence startup based in San Francisco, is negotiating with investors for a fresh capital infusion of $30 billion to $50 billion. This round would place the company's value at as much as $950 billion, according to individuals familiar with the matter. Such a deal would represent a sharp increase, more than doubling its $380 billion valuation from just three months earlier.
The discussions remain preliminary and could collapse, the sources noted. An Anthropic representative offered no comment on the potential raise. Bloomberg had previously covered the ongoing investor conversations.
Surge in AI Investments
Venture capitalists have funneled vast sums into AI ventures throughout Silicon Valley. New companies, some barely a year old, command massive investments amid the ongoing enthusiasm for the technology. During the first quarter of the year, AI firms collected a record $297 billion in funding. That total stemmed largely from huge rounds for top players, which accounted for four of the five biggest deals in history.
Anthropic distinguishes itself in this busy field. The firm has advanced by offering AI solutions such as Claude Code to corporate clients. This product allows robots to produce software on their own. Chief Executive Dario Amodei recently disclosed that Anthropic reached a $30 billion revenue run rate, projecting annual earnings at that level. He anticipates the business could expand by 80 times over the course of this year.
At the company's developer event in San Francisco earlier this month, Amodei remarked, "I hope that 80-times growth doesn't continue because that's just crazy and it's too hard to handle." He added, "I'm hoping for some more normal numbers."

Anthropic unveiled its latest AI system, Mythos, last month. The model excels at detecting security flaws in code, prompting the company to warn of a potential shift in cybersecurity practices. Rather than making Mythos available to everyone, Anthropic limited access to select groups. The release has drawn worldwide attention, with governments and organizations seeking opportunities to test it.
Anthropic traces its roots to 2021, when former OpenAI executives including Dario Amodei founded it with a focus on developing safe and reliable AI systems. The company quickly gained notice for its Claude family of models, which compete directly with offerings from rivals. Products like Claude Code highlight Anthropic's push into practical business applications, helping it secure major clients and partnerships.
Strains with U.S. Government
Mythos has strained ties between Anthropic and federal authorities. The startup clashed recently with the Department of Defense. Officials there accused Anthropic of influencing AI applications in military operations and deemed it a security concern. In response, Anthropic filed a lawsuit against the government.
Following the Mythos debut, some officials have sought to repair the relationship. Amodei held talks last month with White House staff, which participants called constructive.
Ongoing Competition and Partnerships
Anthropic contends with rivals including OpenAI, Google, and xAI for both consumer and business markets. To sustain its rapid expansion, the company secures investments and computing resources from major technology firms. In the past month, Google pledged up to $40 billion for Anthropic. Amazon separately committed as much as $25 billion.
These alliances provide critical infrastructure for training advanced models like Mythos. Anthropic's developer conference this month underscored its momentum, drawing attention to tools like Claude Code and ambitious growth plans. As AI investments hit new peaks, Anthropic positions itself as a leader through innovation and strategic deals.
