South Korea's AI Ambitions Take Center Stage
At this week's AI Summit in San Francisco, South Korean President Jae Myung Lee joined top business leaders and researchers from the country to meet with NVIDIA and its ecosystem partners. The discussions aimed to chart Korea's progress in artificial intelligence.
The meetings build on a visit to Korea last month by NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang. This week's announcements and talks advance the nation's full-stack push to expand its AI infrastructure and expertise. South Korea is working toward becoming a global center for AI innovation.
NVIDIA and KAIST Launch Joint AI Research Lab
NVIDIA and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced a joint AI research lab at the KAIST Kim Jaechul Graduate School of AI in Seoul. The lab will focus on advancing agentic AI for South Korea. It marks the first joint AI lab between a Korean university and any global technology company.
The collaboration will create a robust academic AI research program. It brings together NVIDIA's full-stack AI expertise, NVIDIA Nemotron open models, and NVIDIA AI Cloud partner computing with the scientific talent at KAIST, one of Asia's premier research universities.

NVIDIA and SK Group Celebrate Longstanding Partnership
On the eve of the summit, Huang, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, and teams from SK hynix, SK Telecom, and NVIDIA gathered for dinner in Woodside, California. The warm summer evening served as a welcome to Silicon Valley for the Korean business leaders.
NVIDIA and SK Group, which have a longstanding partnership, announced in June an expanded collaboration to codevelop memory for NVIDIA platforms. This work spans AI infrastructure, personal AI, and physical AI. Also in June, SK Telecom announced plans to build AI infrastructure to power Korea's innovation in physical AI, robotics, and more.
