Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity startup based in Lake Mary, Florida, has secured a $200 million funding round led by Insight Partners.
The company was founded in 2017 by two former Defense Department engineers, five years before the public launch of ChatGPT. Spur's technology helps enterprises tell the difference between legitimate human users and increasingly sophisticated bot traffic, allowing them to identify fake users and potential threats.
The bot problem grows
"As sophisticated criminal VPNs, residential proxy networks, and anonymization infrastructure proliferate, organizations are increasingly operating with a critical blind spot: they can see the activity, but not the infrastructure behind it," Insight's Thomas Krane said in a written statement.
Detecting malicious traffic has long been a challenge for corporate security teams. But the current situation is unprecedented. As of mid-2026, bots are now more active on the internet than humans are, Cloudflare reported last month.
"Thought it would be end of 2027, then early 2027, but agentic traffic growing so fast that bots have now passed human traffic online for the first time in the Internet's history," Cloudflare founder and CEO Matthew Prince posted on X last month, referring to his company's latest traffic report.

Background on Spur
Spur Intelligence was founded in 2017, well before the current wave of AI-powered bots. The company's early focus on bot detection proved prescient as the threat landscape evolved. The startup's technology is designed to help organizations see the infrastructure behind online activity, not just the activity itself.
The funding round
The $200 million round was led by Insight Partners, a major venture capital firm that invests in technology companies. The funding will likely be used to expand Spur's capabilities and reach as the demand for bot detection grows.
