How does this tool tell if an image is AI-generated?+
It inspects the file’s embedded metadata: C2PA content credentials, EXIF data, XMP records, PNG text chunks, and software signatures left by tools like Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, ComfyUI, or DALL-E. Findings are weighted into an AI-generation probability and a plain-language verdict, with each indicator listed so you can see the evidence.
Is my image uploaded to a server?+
No. The file is read entirely in your browser using JavaScript — the image never leaves your device and nothing is stored on our servers. This makes it safe to check private or unpublished images.
What are C2PA content credentials?+
C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) is an open standard for cryptographically signed metadata that records how an image was created and edited. Some AI generators and cameras attach these credentials. The tool detects whether C2PA/JUMBF data is present in the file.
Can it detect every AI-generated image?+
No. Metadata-based detection only works when the markers survive. Screenshots, social media re-uploads, format conversions, and metadata strippers all remove this evidence. A clean result means no AI markers were found — it does not prove the image was made by a human. The tool does not analyze the pixels themselves.
Which image formats are supported?+
Metadata parsing is designed for JPEG (EXIF, XMP, and C2PA segments) and PNG (text chunks and C2PA boxes) — the formats where AI generators most commonly leave signatures. Other formats can be loaded but will typically return little or no metadata.
