Frequently asked questions
Is this image upscaler free?+
Yes. The upscaler is completely free with no signup, no usage limits, and no watermarks on the output. You can upscale as many images as you like.
Are my images uploaded to a server?+
No. All processing happens locally in your browser using the HTML canvas — your image never leaves your device. This makes the tool safe to use with private photos, client work, or unreleased product images.
How does the upscaling work?+
The tool enlarges your image 2x, 3x, or 4x using the browser’s high-quality smoothing interpolation, then applies an adjustable sharpening filter to counteract the softness that enlargement introduces. It is not an AI super-resolution model, so it will not invent new detail that was never in the original — but it produces clean, sharp enlargements quickly and privately.
How is this different from AI upscalers?+
AI upscalers use machine learning models to hallucinate plausible new detail, which can work well on very low-resolution photos but requires uploading your image to a server and can introduce artifacts or altered features. This tool uses classic interpolation plus sharpening: results are faithful to the original, processing is instant, and nothing is uploaded.
What does the sharpening slider do?+
After the image is enlarged, a sharpening filter is applied to enhance edges and restore perceived crispness. Higher values produce stronger edges but can create halos around high-contrast areas, so a moderate setting usually looks best. Set it to 0 to disable sharpening entirely.
What image formats and sizes are supported?+
Any format your browser can open works, including PNG, JPG, and WebP. The result downloads as a PNG. Because processing runs on your own device, very large images at 4x can take a moment and use significant memory — for huge files, try 2x first.
