Save Email Attachments to Nextcloud Automatically
Automatically reads emails from an IMAP folder, extracts attachments, generates sanitized filenames with date and sender info, uploads to Nextcloud, and optionally marks emails as read.
This n8n workflow automates the process of saving email attachments to Nextcloud, streamlining document management for businesses and individuals handling invoices, receipts, or other file-based communications. It triggers on emails in a specified IMAP mailbox (e.g., 'Invoices'), processes each attachment using a custom JavaScript function that sanitizes filenames—replacing invalid characters, removing duplicates, trimming length, and prefixing with date and sender (e.g., '2021-01-01_From-Sender-Name_Filename.pdf')—then uploads the files to a designated Nextcloud path like 'Documents/Invoices/'.
Key benefits include time savings by eliminating manual downloads and uploads, ensuring consistent naming conventions for easy searching, and reducing errors from special characters or long names. It's highly configurable: filter emails by unread status, recipient, or custom IMAP criteria; adjust the Nextcloud folder; and enable marking emails as read post-processing. Requires setting the environment variable NODE_FUNCTION_ALLOW_EXTERNAL=lodash for the function node.
Ideal use cases: Automating invoice archiving for accounting teams, collecting contracts or reports from clients, or backing up important attachments from support tickets. Once credentials for IMAP and Nextcloud are set, simply activate the workflow for hands-free operation, integrating seamlessly into daily email routines.
