Daily Memory Worked Example
What a good memory/YYYY-MM-DD.md looks like — a realistic day of an OpenClaw agent's raw notes, with the habits that make them useful later.
memory/2026-07-14.md
Raw notes for the day. Write as things happen; curate into MEMORY.md
later, not here.
09:12 — morning heartbeat
Calendar clean. Backup job from last night: ran, 42 GB, no errors.
10:40 — user asked me to chase the invoice from the printing shop
Sent the follow-up email (thread "Invoice #2214"). They usually answer within a day. Follow up Thursday if silent — noted for the Thursday heartbeat.
13:05 — learned something
User calls the big monitor "the TV". It is the Dell U4025QW, not an actual
TV. Corrected me twice → promoted to MEMORY.md under Preferences.
15:30 — task: photo dedupe script
Wrote ~/bin/photo-dedupe.sh, dry-run only for now. User wants to review
the delete list before anything is removed. Dry-run output saved to
~/tmp/dedupe-2026-07-14.txt. Do not run for real without approval.
Habits that make this file work
- Timestamps on every entry — order matters when reconstructing a day.
- Bold the things future-you must act on, so they survive a skim.
- Mark promotions to
MEMORY.mdexplicitly, so nothing is promoted twice. - Facts learned about the user go to
USER.mdthe same day, not "later".
