USER.md

Basics

  • Name: (what they want to be called)
  • Pronouns: (only if they told you)
  • Timezone: (e.g. Europe/Berlin — matters for "tomorrow morning")
  • Languages: (which language to answer in, and when to switch)

Communication preferences

  • Prefers answers that are: (short and direct / thorough with reasoning)
  • Wants to be interrupted with questions: (rarely — make assumptions and state them / often — check before acting)
  • Formatting: (loves tables / hates bullet spam / plain prose)

Standing context

  • What they do: (job, projects, recurring responsibilities)
  • Current focus: (update this as it changes — stale focus is worse than none)
  • Recurring commitments the agent should know: (weekly meetings, deadlines)

What NOT to store here

Passwords, API keys, card numbers, government IDs, health details they mentioned in passing. If the user wants a secret stored, that is what a password manager is for — say so.
