What This Skill Does

Local command-line tool to query, compare, and retrieve detailed information on 46 NASA MODIS satellite products across 13 categories. Supports bilingual (Chinese/English) search, algorithm details, band info, Google Earth Engine code snippets, and download links.

Replaces manually browsing NASA MODIS product pages and documentation by providing a single offline CLI to search, compare, and export product metadata, GEE code, and download options.

When to Use It

  • Search for a MODIS product by ID, name, or keyword (e.g., NDVI, LST)
  • Compare two MODIS products side-by-side (e.g., MOD13Q1 vs MYD13Q1)
  • Retrieve Google Earth Engine code snippet for a specific MODIS product

Credentials

This skill does not download MODIS data itself — it generates wget / curl commands. Those commands need a NASA Earthdata account.

Resolution order (when generating download commands):

  1. EARTHDATA_USERNAME env var (auto-fills --user in the generated wget)
  2. ~/.netrc entry for machine urs.earthdata.nasa.gov (skill outputs cookie-jar form)
  3. Default uiduobao (geoskill-core credentials.py) — auto-fills --user placeholder

Password is never auto-filled; use EARTHDATA_PASSWORD env var, .netrc, or type it interactively. Register your own free account at https://urs.earthdata.nasa.gov/users/new/ for heavy use.

  1. Data source: NASA MODIS Web, copyright belongs to NASA
  2. All MODIS products are freely available for research and commercial use
  3. GEE Collection IDs use version 061 (Collection 6.1) where available
  4. Snow products (MOD10/MYD10) use Collection 006 and are hosted at NSIDC
  5. Scale factors must be applied to get physical values
  6. Quality bands should be used to filter unreliable pixels
