What This Skill Does
Fetches and summarizes transcripts from YouTube videos. Accepts a video ID or URL, retrieves the transcript in one or more languages, and returns the full text along with metadata.
Replaces manual note-taking or third-party transcription services by extracting and optionally summarizing video content directly from YouTube.
When to Use It
- Summarize a long YouTube video into key points
- Extract the transcript of a lecture or tutorial for note-taking
- Get the text of a YouTube video in a different language
- Transcribe a YouTube video for accessibility or content analysis
- Retrieve the full text of a video for search or indexing

Quick Start
python3 scripts/fetch_transcript.py <video_id_or_url> [languages]
Examples:
python3 scripts/fetch_transcript.py dQw4w9WgXcQ

Output: JSON with video_id, title, author, full_text, and timestamped transcript array.
Workflow
- Run
fetch_transcript.pywith video ID or URL - Script checks VPN, brings it up if needed
- Returns JSON with full transcript text
- Summarize the
full_textfield as needed
Language Codes
Default priority: en, fr, de, es, it, pt, nl
Override with second argument: python3 scripts/fetch_transcript.py VIDEO_ID "ja,ko,zh"
