    The golden age is over

I really think the golden age of consumer and prosumer access to LLMs is done. I have subs to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. I am running the same chat (analyse and comment on a text conversation) with all 4 of them. 3 weeks ago, this was 100% Claude territory, and it was superb. Now it is lazy, makes mistakes, and just doesn’t really engage. This is absolutely measurable. I even saw an article on [ijustvibecodedthis.com](http://ijustvibecodedthis.com/) (the big free ai newsletter) - responses used to be in-depth and pick up all kinds of things i missed, now i get half-hearted paragraphs, and active disengagement (“ok, it looks like you dont need anything from me”) ChatGPT is absurd. It will only speak to me in lists and bullets, and will go over the top about everything (“what an incredible insight, you are crushing it!”). Gemini is… the village idiot and is now 50% hallucinations. Perplexity refuses to give me the kind of insights i look for. I think we are done. I think that if you want quality, you pay enterprise prices. And it may be about compute, but it may also be about too much power for the peasants.

I have been put into debt by Perplexity

Last I checked (two days ago) I had \~500 Computer credits remaining. I haven't used Computer in two days. Today I see that Perplexity has charged me for around 3,000 credits without any warning. Would love to know why I have been gutted of my few remaining credits. Regardless, I will be filing for Chapter 13 bankruptcy

    Perplexity has become garbage

Have gotten and used pro for the past three months, but it's gotten absolutely unusable at this point. Previously it was actually useable for lots of stuff like deep research, even a little bit coding since it connected nicely to GitHub. Now it's just pure garbage. Gets stuck on a coding task that would require changing literally two lines of code and freezes. Not to mention they switched Kimi 2.5 for nemotron, which is less capable to say the least. Claude is so much better for literally anything. On god they've ruined what would have been the most useful AI product on the entire market.

What the hell is Perplexity Computer?

So I've been messing around with all this AI tech lately, and I wanted to break down what Perplexity Computer actually is for anyone out of the loop. It's not a physical rig you buy. It's a cloud-based AI platform that basically acts as your own general-purpose digital worker. It's a unified system that mashes a bunch of top-tier models together to handle crazy complex workflows like research, designing, building, testing, and automating all from one interface. You literally just tell it what outcome you want, and it goes to work while you sit back and chill. Key Features: • Multi-Model Orchestration: This beast taps into 19+ frontier AI models, automatically assigning the right brain to the right job. We're talking: • Claude Opus 4.6: Handling the heavy reasoning • Gemini: Crushing the deep research • Nano Banana: Generating images • Veo 3.1: Handling the video generation • Grok: Knocking out the lightweight tasks • Persistent Memory: It actually remembers your past work! It keeps the context locked in and hooks right into your files and connected services. • End-to-End Execution: You don't have to hold its hand. It formulates the strategy, hands out the tasks to sub-agents, and delivers the finished project. • Parallel Execution: You can run a ton of different tasks at the exact same time without having to babysit the damn thing. • App Connectivity: It links up seamlessly with thousands of apps to keep your workflow smooth. The Catch: This setup is built for professionals, developers, and researchers who need absolute autonomous project execution. But here's the kicker: it's locked exclusively behind the Perplexity Max tier, which runs a damn $200 a month. They do have customizable spending caps so you don't get totally wrecked on overages, but you gotta pay to play if you want those God-tier workflows.

Frustrated with Perplexity cancelling my PAID Pro Subscription

EDIT: THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED. THE PRO SUBSCRIPTION IS BACK! Okay so I need to vent because this has actually gotten ridiculous. Back in July last year I got Perplexity Pro for free through its promotion with a telecom provider. Great deal, loved the product, used it almost every day. Then on February 20th it just... stopped working. No warning, no email, nothing. I reached out to support and Sam hit me with the same "Your account was suspended because our systems detected activity that violates our Terms of Service" email. No further explanation whatsoever. Unlike others, I didn't rant about it and quit. I actually went and bought Perplexity Education Pro on February 25th with my own money because I genuinely liked the product that much. Auto-pay on, everything set up properly. I was ready to be a proper paying customer. That was 14 days ago. Today I open Perplexity and the subscription is just gone. Again. No email this time, not even that. Last time was bad but at least they told me SOMETHING. Today I got absolute silence. Like I genuinely cannot wrap my head around how a company takes your payment, and then cuts off access without so much as a single notification. What is happening? At this point I've sent them a proper complaint email asking for either my subscription back with an actual explanation, or a full refund. Anyone faced the same? Especially on the Education Pro plan? Any solution? How I can reach to an actual person and not a bot?

Things really escalated quickly in the past month and PPLX really needs to acknowledge this.

Let’s see how badly things have got for the paid users (especially Pro): 1. Secretly switching models: TBH, they have been doing this for some time before, but now they just default to “best”, which is their cheapest (and crappiest) model whenever a limit is hit 2. Secretly cutting Pro Search and Deep Research quotas: from 600 searches to 200 per week and from 50 to 20 per month, respectively. Sorry bro, but expecting people to pay 1 dollar for 1 research is simply ridiculous 3. Secretly restricting image generation in certain regions (eg Vietnam) 4. Secretly limiting videos generation, as well! 5. Secretly deleting complaint posts on Reddit. In the same time, there are a bunch of “users” popped up and praise how awesome PPLX has become (who knows if they are bots/ PR / PR bots?) 6. The overall answer quality is getting shorter, lazier and thus, shittier 7. A large portion of users who received their Pro free for 1 year now reports that they have been downgraded to Free tier for no reason 8. And now the fxxking file upload limitation: 50 to 3, the same as Free tier users? Do you even know what “pro” means? 9. Worst of all, absolutely no response from dev team? Hello? Are you still there? We need some answers, mate! PPLX was my favourite AI tool, the Space, the “Turn Chat to File”, the freedom (no heavy censorship as ChatGPT)…and it is really sad seeing it goes down a spiral like this! Turns out gifting 1 year Pro subscription for free like it were free isn’t really a good business practice, and we all now pay for the price of it 🤷🏻‍♀️

They just wiped all my billing

Today I opened Perp*** and saw that my Education Pro subscription had been canceled without any notice. Now beloved Sam is running me in circles, claiming that I didn't have a payments at all. Checked, they really just wiped all info. And Education Pro cost now are 9$, not like it been around 5$

My 1 year Pro account was suddenly downgraded!

I have a 1 year Perplexity Pro subscription through a local telco promotion, which runs through October. Yesterday I suddenly received prompts to upgrade and my usage was limited to basic searches. I recall some commentary that a credit card is now required, so I added payment details to my account, but it was not restored. For some reason, the Mac OS app still displays my Pro status, but doesn't let me use the Pro features. I've contacted support, providing screenshots, proof of the promotion and my redemption. The AI agent insists there is no record of my Pro account status and no longer responds when I follow up. This is so unacceptable. What can be done to escalate?

How I used Computer to build me a personal SaaS to transfer Spotify playlists into Youtube music playlists - A small writeup

How I used Perplexity Computer to build me a personal SaaS to transfer Spotify playlists into my Youtube music playlists - A small writeup Before you read this, I must say that this tool is for my personal use only - it has authenticated with my Spotify/YTmusic accounts through relevant API keys to transfer my playlists from one service to another. In the video, I have shown some demo examples with public spotify playlists. I'm not planning on sharing this tool. Also, this was not one shot - I iterated and built through a several few prompts. The tech stack used by Perplexity in this project is Frontend React/Typescript Tailwindcss shadcn/ui Vite to build Backend Node/express (this runs in the sandbox, and the static build deployed which is the UI you see in the video is wired to this) Python worker process (for handling all spotify/ third party ytmusic API calls) SSE to see the real time stream of songs getting transferred in the UI (as seen in video) How it works: This is an issue I have been facing (probably other users here as well, we all want to transfer playlists across multiple services, yes I know YTmusic likely has a native option to import, but I plan on expanding this tool to Apple music and other services as well later, all in one place) for a long time now and today I just decided to build a tool myself to end this. I prompted computer to do some research on how other paid SaaS do this - especially in the backend to implement the correct matching logic since you know how there are many songs with same names, etc.. and there are chances of going incorrect. I don't want to pay for other services, so I just built my own - Computer took in my prompt, did a comprehensive step by step research - How to use the spotify dev API and the unofficial YTMusic python library (it fetched latest docs, especially important for unofficial APIs since they keep breaking due to changes upstream), wired it all up. For the matching logic, it cloned/browsed several other similar github repos (not the exact same) - went through the code in each repo, and finally implemented a 4 stage process to maximize chances of best match 1 - First match through ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) - Spotify exposes this through their API for songs and a lookup is then performed with this code on YTMusic 2 - If ISRC doesn't work, the app searches for the album on YouTube Music, finds the best album match, then looks through that album's tracklist for the specific song. This is great for standard releases, if the album exists on YTMusic, the track is almost certainly in it with the exact right version. It avoids the "wrong remix" problem because you're browsing the actual album tracklist, not searching loosely. 3 - Weighted Song Search, The general-purpose fallback. Searches YouTube Music for {song title} {artist} and scores every result using a weighted formula: Title similarity: 40% - how closely the song names match (after normalizing away parenthetical info like "(feat. X)" or "(Remastered 2024)") Artist similarity: 30% - compares all artist names, handles reordering and containment (e.g. "Drake" matching "Drake, 21 Savage") Duration match: 15% - same song should be roughly the same length. A 30-second difference is suspicious; a 45+ second difference almost certainly means wrong track Descriptor match: 10% — checks that version descriptors are consistent: if the Spotify track is a "remix", the YT result must also be a "remix". If one says "live" and the other doesn't, it's penalized hard. Covers: remix, live, acoustic, instrumental, karaoke, cover, slowed, reverb, sped up, radio edit, extended, demo Album similarity: 5% - small bonus if album names also match The similarity scoring uses Levenshtein distance (via Python's difflib.SequenceMatcher) on normalized strings - lowercased, with parenthetical content and "feat." info stripped out, special characters removed. (I actually have no idea what any of this means) 4 - Video Fallback, Some tracks exist on YouTube as videos but not as "songs" in the YTMusic catalog - remixes, mashups, regional content, very new releases. As a last resort, the app searches the video catalog with a slightly lower acceptance threshold. The engine runs strategies 1 → 2 → 3 → 4 in order and stops at the first successful match. Each matched track gets tagged with which strategy found it, and the frontend shows this with emoji badges so you can see at a glance how your playlist was matched - mostly ISRC? Mostly fuzzy search? A mix? Real-Time UI The transfer isn't a "click and wait for an email" async kind of thing as of now. When matching is in progress: • Each track row animates in as it's processed • You see the Spotify album art on the left, an arrow, and the matched YouTube Music thumbnail on the right • A colored badge shows match confidence (exact / title match / partial) But, I'm planning to add transfer to more services and also add batch processing since this current MVP is not too efficient (The UI wired by Computer is great for aesthetics, I requested this in the prompt too, but not efficient for sure) I'm really impressed that Perplexity computer researched all docs and wired all of this in for me in a few shot attempt - It's really like having a dev with his own laptop who can build and push code autonomously. I plan to keep testing and share more reviews of Computer soon.

    Best perplexity alternatives

Perplexity has gone from being a platform I love to a platform that I love to hate. While I still use it frequently, the features don't seem to be improving (with deep research, it seems to be worsening), and the Pro plan seems to be heading for eventual demise. So I've been experimenting with other platforms to see what else can be relied upon. For deep research, I've been using Gemini and finding Grok quite OK. GLM has been surprisingly decent at deep research and is pretty much free at https://chat.z.ai/. I've been using Kimi for a few weeks via Kimi.com. It is surprisingly good at Manus-like tasks like document generation and web design. NotebookLM blows Perplexity Spaces out of the water. But for high frequency answer-seeking, I still return to Perplexity. Would love to find alternatives. Anything else worth checking out?

My experience with Perplexity computer till now - Vibe coding/building with it is pretty fun (turn on audio before viewing video)

I recently got access to their newly launched feature, and it seems pretty fun to build with. I'm not too technical, but I found it quite easy to navigate through the Computer interface without much difficulty. Since there is so much going on in the news right now, I asked Perplexity computer to build an app which allows me to listen to radio all around the world. It understood my prompt correctly and got it done in a single attempt - got the UI for the app done as per my theme requests, even added nice features like favouriting news stations and past stations listened to. When I asked Computer how it did this, it said it used a free public radio API in the backend to make this app. I observed it's working where multiple different AI models coordinated in parallel, and even has abilities to use specific skills for specific tasks. It even added filters to separate radio by genre in the UI, as seen in the video! I could have never researched and incorporated this on my own in a million years if not for tools like these. I had no idea that such an API even existed. Perplexity's research did all the work for me. I have previously tried tools like Replit and Lovable, and my review of them is that I had to prompt them so many times in order to make them even understand what I was trying to achieve. Perplexity computer made it much simpler for me and completed this in one single turn. I'm wondering if others here face the same experience as mine when it comes to these app builders.

I merged Perplexity Computer's 40+ skills with Claude Code's best community skills into 10 open-source Super-Skills. They work on both platforms.

**Perplexity Computer is the most powerful AI agent most people will ever touch. Claude Code has the deepest skill library in AI. Neither one can use the other's skills.** Until now. Perplexity's 40+ built-in skills and Claude's community-built skill ecosystem are both best-in-class — but they're locked inside their own platforms. You can't import a Claude skill into Perplexity. You can't run Perplexity's toolchain inside Claude. So no matter which agent you use, you're working with half the playbook. I merged both. # What I built **10 open-source Super-Skills** — each one combines Perplexity Computer's built-in capabilities with the best community-sourced Claude Code skills into a single, comprehensive playbook per domain. Each is a single [SKILL.md](http://SKILL.md) file you drop into your agent. No configuration. No setup. Your AI agent goes from generalist to senior specialist in that field. # The full suite * **Marketing** — Campaign planning, brand voice, competitive analysis, SEO, content creation, performance analytics. One file replaces an entire marketing ops playbook. * **Sales** — Account research, call prep, competitive intel, outreach drafting, daily briefings. Built for founders and closers who don't have a RevOps team. * **Dev & Engineering** — Full-stack development, CI/CD, testing, debugging, architecture decisions, code review. The engineering co-pilot that actually follows best practices. * **Content & Creative** — Copywriting, video production, image generation, brand kits, speech/audio, editorial workflows. For creators who use AI as a production studio. * **Product Management** — Feature specs, roadmap prioritization (RICE, MoSCoW, ICE), stakeholder comms, user research synthesis, metrics tracking. * **Legal** — Contract review, NDA triage, compliance (GDPR/CCPA), risk assessment, meeting briefings, canned responses. Operator-level legal without the billable hours. * **Finance** — Journal entries, reconciliation, variance analysis, financial statements, audit support, close management. Built for the monthly close, not the textbook. * **Research & Knowledge** — Deep research workflows, data exploration, statistical analysis, academic search, knowledge management. * **AI Agent Development** — Multi-agent orchestration, prompt engineering, tool integration, memory systems, evaluation frameworks. Build better agents with better fundamentals. * **Operations & CX** — Ticket triage, escalation workflows, customer research, response drafting, knowledge base management. Support ops on autopilot. Each skill is **2,000–2,800 lines** of structured instruction — validated against the [agentskills.io](http://agentskills.io) spec — combining the best of what Perplexity and Claude's ecosystems have built separately. **All 10 are free and open source.** [https://github.com/get-zeked/perplexity-super-skills](https://github.com/get-zeked/perplexity-super-skills) # How to install # Perplexity Computer 1. This is ABSURD

Bought a 1 year subscription when they still advertised unlimited file uploads, unlimited deep research and unlimited labs. They removed unlimited deep research and labs a while ago, great, but I can live with it. But now, they have set monthly uploads, which includes files, images and anything that’s not text basically to MAX 50 per month?!?!?! This is absurd, 50 file uploads a month when they always said unlimited file uploads is an enormous difference. That is nothing, I can definitely go through that in a day.

Perplexity Max - Computer used entire monthly budget in 1 task

I had computer create a task to scour a 280k python codebase for errors, and fix them. I had it do two passes. It spawned subagents, largely Sonnet 4.6. It ran for 40 minutes, is not complete yet, and used 15k credits. This is 50% more than what's included with the $200USD/month. I'm utterly astounded that I blew more than the entire month's Max subscription in one task in under an hour. What has everybody else's experience been? EDIT - task finally completed at 21k tokens, 1.2 hours runtime. Market cost at perplexity = over $400USD. EDIT2 - it has taken an additional 2000 credits to *merely attempt to push it's work product to Github.* For reference, thats 1/5th of your monthly $200USD subscription. It's still trying to do it - it's spawned subagents, split it into 100 commits, tried to use JSON payloads to push file content directly, wrote a python script etc. It's incredibly comical. I encourage you to look at the shared task yourself: [https://www.perplexity.ai/computer/tasks/i-want-you-to-clone-my-github-wa4o1cbmTIqHd3.oGJPZbA](https://www.perplexity.ai/computer/tasks/i-want-you-to-clone-my-github-wa4o1cbmTIqHd3.oGJPZbA) EDIT3 - It is still trying to push it's code changes to Github, and has now consumed 31k credits total, almost 10k credits on pushing to github alone. That's an entire $200USD/month Max subscription to *merely push work product to Github.*

Hey PERPLEXITY we need some answers

Hey Perplexity, we need some clarity. This community exists because we believe in what you’re building. It’s been weeks with no real communication, and the recent changes have left many of us confused. If things are tough behind the scenes funding, pivots, anything, we get it. The AI space is volatile. But being transparent with your users would go a long way. Right now, it just feels like we’re being left in the dark. We genuinely like your product and want to keep supporting it. Please talk to us.

i actually appreciate perplexity and defended you in a thread not long ago but i just opened the app and half the page is "upgrade to max and get computer" banners please give us a way to dismiss this i'm not paying $200/month, at least not until there's a proper coding agent like cursor CLI with generous limits and no context restrictions i get it, VC money is burning and you need to convert users - but stop pushing MAX ads on Pro subscribers like we're a free tier audience. we're already paying customers
