Automatic n8n Workflows & Credentials Backup to GitHub

This n8n workflow automates the backup of your self-hosted n8n instance's workflows and credentials to a GitHub repository. Triggered on a customizable schedule, it exports all workflows and credentials locally, computes hashes to detect changes, and only commits updates when differences are found—preventing repo clutter from unnecessary pushes.

The workflow backup process starts by setting a local path, fetching the previous hash via a helper workflow, exporting workflows with 'n8n export:workflow', generating a new hash, and comparing them. If updated, it reads the JSON file, extracts text, and pushes a timestamped file to GitHub. A parallel process handles credentials similarly: setting paths, hash retrieval/comparison, export via 'n8n export:credentials', and conditional GitHub commit.
