Backup n8n Workflows to Google Drive
Automates backing up all n8n workflows to Google Drive via undocumented REST API. Manual trigger creates JSON files but lacks versioning, producing multiple copies.
This workflow provides a temporary solution for backing up n8n workflows by leveraging the undocumented REST API to fetch workflow data and store it in Google Drive. It starts with a manual trigger, retrieves a list of all workflows from the n8n instance, maps them into individual items, fetches the full JSON for each workflow, processes the data, converts it to binary files, and uploads them to a specified Google Drive folder.
The process uses HTTP Request nodes with Basic Auth credentials to query the local n8n instance (e.g., http://localhost:5678/rest/workflows), a Function node to iterate over the list, Merge for data combination, and Move Binary Data to prepare files for upload. While Google Drive node is implied by the workflow name and purpose, setup requires configuring credentials for both n8n Basic Auth and Google Drive OAuth.
Benefits include automated disaster recovery for self-hosted n8n instances, preventing data loss from updates or failures, and easy scheduling via cron triggers. Use cases: n8n admins running daily/weekly backups, teams managing multiple workflows needing offsite storage, or migrating instances. It saves hours of manual exports.
Limitations: No versioning support leads to duplicate files on repeated runs, causing folder bloat. Update promised for versioning. Requires local n8n access and credential setup; not for cloud n8n without adjustments.
